Cybersecurity is starting to look like an industry that can’t hire fast enough for the problems it’s facing.
There are only around 35,000 CISOs worldwide supporting roughly 359 million businesses, and meanwhile, ransomware damages are expected to hit $275 billion a year by 2031. On top of that, the job keeps expanding.
It’s probably not surprising that average tenure is now under two years in a lot of cases.
The pressure on security teams comes as AI models are advancing faster than many researchers expected. Newer AI models are getting dramatically better at finding vulnerabilities and completing complex attack simulations on their own. Some researchers say the latest systems are already outperforming the benchmarks designed to measure them.
Security teams are trying to hire and defend at one speed while the underlying technology is moving much faster underneath them. And not to mention, these days, a week doesn’t pass without another launch or another breach.
This week, we saw both. Jump in ⬇️
