Good morning, tech leaders!

There was no shortage of federal cyber news this week. The FBI’s latest report was released and shows cybercrime at a massive scale, with over $20B in losses, driven largely by a small number of fraud types. Investment scams alone account for billions, along with business email compromise and tech support scams that continue to be reused with consistent results.

Many of these rely on familiar entry points like phishing and impersonation, paired with fast-moving payment methods like crypto and wire transfers that make recovery difficult.

Federal agencies are also warning that Iran-linked actors are targeting U.S. energy and water systems by going after controllers and operator interfaces, including PLCs and SCADA environments. In several cases, these systems were directly exposed to the internet, giving attackers a relatively simple path in and the ability to disrupt or manipulate physical operations.

A pretty active week across federal cyber priorities.
